Costs Lawyer
The Association of Law Costs Draftsmen Order 2006 (2006 No. 3333) came into force on 1st January 2007. This granted the Association of Law Costs Draftsmen authorised body status for the purposes of Sections 27 and 28 of the Courts and Legal Services Act, enabling them to, in turn, grant members with Fellowship status, rights of audience and the right to conduct costs litigation.
Previously, costs draftsmen had appeared before the court as deemed employees of their solicitor clients. Toby became one of the first Fellow Members of the Association to be granted higher rights in July 2007 and attain the title Costs Lawyer.
Toby Moreton, Principal
TMC is headed up by Toby Moreton FALCD (Costs Lawyer). He began his career as a law costs draftsman in Southampton in 1992 and went on to hold various senior positions in and around London and the South East, before setting up TMC Ltd in 2005. TMC is an independent firm of law costs drafting, negotiation and consultancy specialists, which is now at the heart of a growing network of highly respected and experienced draftsmen and costs lawyers.
Toby has been closely involved in a number of high profile cases and has developed a particular specialism in a number of areas, such as housing, personal injury, clinical negligence, commercial litigation and civil liberties matters, including actions against the police and death in custody cases.
Having quickly established a well-deserved reputation for quality, attention to detail and an unwavering commitment to client care, TMC has seen a steadily increasing workload and rapidly expanding client base, largely through word of mouth. TMC now operates from two offices, in High Wycombe and Wooburn Green, Buckinghamshire and provides drafting and negotiation services to a wide range of both high street and Legal 500 law firms, insurance companies and, on occasion, litigants in person.
